Generals are used to keep up the discussion on fast boards. I really don't know why they exist on slow boards other than circle jerks.

for instance, on /diy/ we have a general for electronics so that people don't create new threads for all the things they want to discuss pertaining electronics, otherwise the board would get flooded with questions that would leave say woodworking or locksmiths on page 12

ever since the 3d printing and quadrocopter hit the mainstream people started shitting up the board
now they have generals for those where they can discuss things limited to their interes and they are quite decent i might add
sure as fuck this is nothing that could be said about the generals on /int, but i'm just going all out "not all muslims" on this one here
