If you want a generic, no-nonsense, dirt-cheap-to-own, no-fun-allowed car that gets you from A to B every day, it's one of the best cars you can possibly own.
But I suggest you buy something more fun with a stickshift if you can afford it. /o/ has a great sticky thread worth reading.

Don't get memed. If you're on a budget, get a Corolla or Civic. Get manual if you want. You can figure it out quick enough. But I bet that at this point, autos probably get better mileage anyways.
>>57203398
It took me an hour to learn after driving auto for 7 years. Just find an empty backroad, and start-stop-start-stop-start-stop constantly until you quit stalling. Everything after that is easy as shit. If you live in a city with a ton of stop-and-go traffic, you might not want to bother and just go autotragic for the conveniance.
What's your budget?

Can't go wrong with a Foxbody Mustang for affordable Musican V8 fun. Weak for the displacement and a bit flexible in the chassis when stock, but fixing those issues is trivially easy. Lots of cheap aftermarket means you can make it into the ideal car for you as life goes by. They'll last a long time too.
>>57203585
Yes, but manual licenses can drive automatics but not the other way around.

it's alright. tbqh I dont get the "manual is superior" meme. The act of driving a car in itself is lazy, I dont understand why people draw the line at moving your hand and foot a little bit more than normal.
But I would recommend at least learning manual for the sake of flexibility.
>>57203630
This is what I mean about getting memed. You're going to buy a Foxbody, and it'll be a pain in your ass. You are going to be the guy in your neighborhood who is constantly fucking with his car. That's fine if you like it, but you shouldn't make it your first car.
>>57203585
In most states, South Australia is the only state that allows drivers who pass their test in an automatic vehicle to be immediately eligible to drive/learn manual at their own pace.

You talking preference for transmission? MT is more fun because you can pretend you're doing something complicated but AT is more efficient in modern cars.

AT
No one has a manual transmission car here except for some "car guys" though most of men get the licences that allow to drive MT car.

Depending on the country, manuals can be the cheaper option when buying a car. Some people like manuals because they're used to them, or enjoy the control they have over the car when compared to a non-'tiptronic' automatic.
I personally prefer driving manuals because all of my cars have been old shitboxes that would be even slower with an automatic in them.
>>57218060
I also prefer manual car. and all car that i had in past were manual. But current car is automatic because my wife requested easy driving.
If I'm on enough budget, hope to buy something 90's manual sport car again.
>>57203567
Even in a country where most cars are manual, what kind of a poofter do you have to be to get an automatic-only licence? I assume they both cost the same and if you ever later in your life want to drive a sporty roadster or a classic car and it comes with a manual you're fucked and need to spend more money and time again.

25 for my motorcycle learner's certificate. 20 for my full car license.
I drive both automatic and manual.
I wish that manual cars were practical over here, but the roads are shit and you're in traffic all the time even when inside the city so everyone drives an automatic. Manuals are cheaper but you still get ripped off compared to other countries, doesn't matter if the car is new or used.
Here if you want a "cheap" used AT city car like a 2011-2013 Hyundai i10 for example, then you should be prepared to spend $9000-12000.
This country sucks ass.

It can't be as bad over there as it is here. The most basic i10 AT model retails for $18,500 at a Hyundai dealership here, while in the UK you can land the most expensive AT model for $1000 less.

I'd say that if it has less than 70,000 km then that's not a bad deal, but then again I'm no expert and personally I don't like Hyundai very much. I took several lessons on a manual i30 and didn't like it much, but then again maybe it's because it was abused by so many other students.
