I suppose I've just seen a few too many old films where the general view of New Yorkers is that they all are obnoxious and get in fights with each other constantly.
It's not about taking sides between the USA and Russia. I don't believe that there's any reason why their foreign policy directions have to be misaligned, but to change the current situation will require give and take on both sides and a conscious effort by other countries to encourage them to play nice.
