Why are they still so relevant today?
They are supposed to shrivel up into obscurity like all empires.

>Why are they still so relevant today?
Our economic reforms and military success in the 1980s reversed our decline. In the end it was Thatcher's stubborn belief that Britain could be turned around that saved us.
Quite a remarkable recovery but we have historical form in this area, if you remember how we recovered from losing nearly everything after the American Revolutionary War (which was in fact a global war with global consequences for Britain). That war finished in 1783 iirc.

Do you speak American? I said "Shariah Republic"

Ah, that is good news. Especially the naval facility which is mentioned halfway down the article. Along with the new naval base in Bahrain the Royal Navy will now have a solid permanent presence near the Indian Ocean.
I would like to see something more substantial in the Far East. We have that Singapore naval facility but that's it. But that can wait until the navy gets bigger, we don't have enough hulls currently.

Aren't we better suited to a Shariah Monarchy? There's plenty of those around.
Shariah Republic is more suitable for France m8

They'll slowly decline, an ethnic shift that has taken place in Britain is just too big not to produce large conflicts

Because they are close allies with the USA. It's the same reason for any relevance Canada might have.
Long live the Queen.

As bad as the Muslim situation is a significant proportion of the population is anti-immigration, the same can't be said for many other western European nations

oh come on after a few generations you polaks will get jobs outside toilets and integrate

Considering there's now twice as many Poles as Pakis I reckon if we give you lot some horses we'll be all good.
They weren't overly dependent on their colonies' resources and actively pursued trade with them after their independence.

I know it's hard to swallow your pride and admit that there will be cultural conflicts between muslims and the rest, but you can't live constantly in denial. I don't know if this is in any way compensating, but the US is going down the shitter as well, slowly but steadily
No need to be mean, I'm saying all this seriously
>>57184024
You don't seem to realise that a significant proportion of the UK agree with you, in fact I know very few people who actually support immigration and don't despise Islam family included

OTOH we were dependent on our colonies to be a superpower even though they outnumbered us by 10 to 1.
It was a shock for the Establishment and the public to adjust to the change to Britain's position in the world, from a superpower to a great power. Basically took 3 decades for the country to get over the Empire.
