but he persecuted fundamentalists, went against the muslim scholars, was an arab nationalist and socialist (secular arab movements), encouraged women to get education and enter traditionally male sectors (like the army), and also changed his views on the law, saying the sharia law went against arab socialism

He probably tried to be too ahead of his time. He should have been like Erdogan and act cool until he made his country was strong enough that he could talk about Islamic revival and stuff.
And even Erdogan doesnt still talk about it. He or his movement needs 10-20 years or so
lol gaddafi was religious just hated gulf arabs and Egyptians . thats why he opposed their "scholars " the libyan population is religious .like all women there wear hijab with no exception now and in gaddafi days
