Here it's often immigrant kids that seem to hype all about getting car, like getting a car is a right to show that you're a man or something. But normal swedes tend to enjoy getting a car once they get a proper job and apartment, but getting a drivers license is always good to get before even thinking about "car".

Mostly German cars, but usually young car enthusiasts that know more about cars buy japanese. Honda Preludes, Civics, Toyota Celicas, even some old Lexuses. However most still buy Audis and VW, since they see them as very practical.

We have like a 180% sales tax on cars here, so most drive the most generic eye-sores you'll ever see on the road.
We have a lot of BMWs/Audi/Mercs driven by immigrants who spend all their money on them while simultaneously living in small shitbox apartments. I kid you not but apart from a small areas where rich folk live, most of the nicer cars here are actually seen in "ghettos".

I can't speak for all of Canada but at least where I live half the cars are pickup trucks and the other half are sedans. Not much of a car culture.

Used to be a rite of passage as a young person to get a licence, car and become an adult. Simply because distances are so vast, but that sort of varies depending on where you grew up I guess.
