So, instead of saying "I went to France, Germany, Austria, and Slovenia", they say "I went to Europe" and usually highlight the most important places they visit like Paris and Frankfurt because it's much more practical and simpler then listing off all the countries you visited.
To put this in context, if you visited Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island would you list all of those states when telling your friends? No, you'd say that you visited New England or the Northeastern US.
