Atlanta is unique in being incredibly spread out. Most of it expands out instead of up, so you'll have areas in the center of the city that seem like residential neighborhoods filled with tiny houses and trees until you notice the skyscrapers sticking out behind you. Very different from northern cities.

My college campus, Georgia Tech. It's in the center of the city but has its own self-contained area with lots of greenspace too. Dorms are divided between East Campus which looks like a typical downtown area with apartment-looking buildings and all the frat houses and the comfier West Campus where I live that looks more like your generic Ivy-style campus with trees everywhere and more classical buildings.
This is the middle of campus, looking from a large building with classes and labs out over the student center.
