I've never clapped in a restaurant

Some restaurants (not common on the south) that if a plate or cup is broken, everyone claps in the restaurant.

Or if it is someone's birthday and the staff is singing happy birthday

It seems a bit rude not to clap, don't you think?

People always complain the US has no culture, yet they talk shit about things like this.
