Large, cold and baron. Very straight and angular, which comes off as oppressing.

Pic related is way more aesthetic. Rounded, inviting, and warm inside.

Explain to me how Turkish mosques aren't influenced strongly by The Hagia Sophia then.

Copy might be a harsh word but the design is very similar. Another example of Byzantine church design.

>>
>>57010217
But that's how architectural trends work. You see an aspect that you like, and you incorporate it into your design. There's no such thing as a 'set' design. Domes aren't exclusive to churches, and usually only very old churches have domes.

I personally find domes much more appealing than straight and angular roofs. They're just much more softer on the eye.

You are right it's softter but I prefer Gothic for instance because it looks like there is so much work on the outside, the building isn't just impressive because it's big but also for all the details. The eyes doesn't only follow the shape of the thing but get caught by every angle, scuplture, arch, spire etc, and the longer you look the more impressed it becomes

There is a difference between the Gothic and Dome aesthetics of design when it comes to churches. Gothic is supposed to emphasize god's transcendence. The Dome is supposed to emphasize God coming down onto us.

Mosques tend to overdo it with the patterns and colors, it looks really tacky imho.
