Any North Caucasians on /int/? What's the coolest North Caucasian language with decent enough resources to learn? What's the easiest one to learn?

What is it like to be from the North Caucasus? Do people in the Circassian diaspora still speak Circassian?

Thanks

North Caucasians are viewed as savages in Russia. They adhere to medieval traditions and generally behave like Muslim migrants in Europe.
>>
>>56986932
I thought that was only Chechens, or are the others like that too?
>>
>>56987035
The Ingush and other mountain inhabitants aren't any better. Also, why are you interested in NC? Do you have any friends of this descent there?
>>
>>56987267
Just started to read about Adyghe and Abkhaz people (Northwest Caucasian), and their cultures seem pretty neat.
>>
>>56987405
Well, I had an online relationship with a Turkish gay qt on interpals who speaks Adyghe (his ancestors were from Circassia). He was very nationalistic.
>>
>>56987573
Nationalistic about Circassia or Turkey?

Did he tell you anything interesting about his culture?
>>
>>56987924
Circassia of course. He hates Turkey for genocide and shit. He spoke to me in Adyghe that was curious. Nothing specific.
>>
>>56988061
Do you still speak with him? Ask him if he knows of any good resources for Adyghe.
>>
>>56988555
Nope. We broke up (I grew tired) and he found an Israeli bf. I'm glad for him though.

Accidentally deleted my post, sorry.

The other part is Swedish. They were refugees to Iceland, and later moved to Sweden.
>>
>>56983522
I am Abkhazian on my fathers side. It's a truley difficult language to learn. There are a myriad of ancient customs most are about worshiping your elders.

There are tons of Circassians in Turkey. Most of them have been pretty well assimilated into Turkey and cannot speak a word of Circassian. The ones that do know their ancestors hate Russia with a passion the usually 1864 genocide shit or whatever.
>>
>>56989556
They also hate Turkey, it's very discriminatory against them and the use of their native language just as with other minorities like Kurds.
>>
>>56989556
Do you speak Abkhaz? How difficult is it to learn? Are there resources for it online?

Tell me about the customs. What are your holidays, and what do you mean by worshipping your elders? Is there a clan/tribe system? What are your opinions on the Republic of Abkhazia? What are your relations with other North Caucasian people? Are you Christian or Muslim, and are there tensions between Christian and Muslim Abkhazians?
>>
>>56989619
Whatever they hate Turkey they hate Russia 1000x more. They see Russia as the reason that they are in Turkey in the first place. The reason that more then 75% of their race died of starvation and crossing the Black Sea.
>>
>>56989704
I'm not him but you won't learn it. Seriously, it has few speakers you can find on internet and even lesser content.
>>
>>56989814
And what about slavery they were brought into on the southern shore?
>>
>>56989704
There are resources in Turkish to learn Abkhazian but they are shitty and encomplete. I don't live in Turkey anymore so I can't access the new ones. There are traveling and permanent Abkhazian language centers that go from village to village to teach people their native tounge and customs.

It has been exceptionally difficult to learn Abkhazian and I only know a few words.
>>
>>56989417
What's your Caucasus part ?
>>56989415
Their history is the best e.g. they are connected to to the King Arthur legend
>>
You won't ever be able to learn them.
The best materials for learning them are available in Russian or Georgian, you know neither.
You can study them at Georgian universities too, but again, you don't know Georgian.
>>
>>56989968
That's exactly my thought as well.

Even Georgian is extremely difficult.
>>
>>56989952
How are Ossetians connected to King Arthur?

>>56989820
>>56989930
>>56989968
That's a shame.
>>
>>56990044
>How are Ossetians connected to King Arthur?
you know Ossetians are not real Caucasians, right?
they are indo-european people, specifically Iranid ones.
Their ancestors were like this:
sarmatians > alans > osettians
king arthur's legend is connected with either alans or sarmatians, i don't remember exactly..
>>
>>56989869
I am not sure about this part? We're the Circassians kept as slaves? I don't think it's possible because Muslims couldn't own another Muslim as a slave. They would have to be Christian when captured.
>>
>>56990187
That's wrong.
Georgians and Circassians were imported as slaves to Ottomans en masse, mostly serving as Janissaries.
>>
>>56990044
Well Alans (Ossetians) are nomads and settled in various places in Europe, some of them in England.
It's said that King Arthur was an Alan, for example the Alans put their sword in the earth before a fight (legend of excalibur etc) to have a connection to their War God and pray for a victory
>>
>>56990140
I know they're Indo-Europeans, but somebody mentioned them and they're technically in the North Caucasus (though the thread was made for Northwest Caucasian and Northeast Caucasian languages) so I started asking about them.

>>56990269
>some of them in England
That sounds like a myth.
>>
>>56990218
Circassians were muslims you dumb fuck. They have been always treated well here.
>>
>>56989704
There are tons of clans in Abkhazian villages. You can look up Abkhazian royal family names online. The highest Abkhazian clan is Marsahn(sheravizde) they are Georgian nobility. Relationship with other races from northern caucus is very good. Abkhazians and Circassians came to Turkey together. The Muslim Abkahzians went to assist the Circasisans and got deported along with them. Even relationship with Georgians are very good. There is almost no rift between Christian Abkahzians and Muslims ones because (outside of my father) we are the worst Muslims. All the Abkhazians drink and make wine.

You can find examples of elder worship in Circassian culture. For example every time and elder walks in the room all the people younger then him have to stand up. If an elder person is walking down the road I cannot cross until they have passed me etc.....
>>
>>56990187
>>56990218
Don't forget about historical Mamluks slave soldiers.
>>
>>56990218
I don't think that correct because Jannisaries were not allowed to have kids. Most jennasiries were Serbians and Hungarians.
>>
>>56990373
>Circassians, Syrians, and Nubians were the three primary races of females who were sold as sex slaves in the Ottoman Empire. Circassian girls were described as fair, light-skinned and were frequently enslaved by Crimean Tatars then sold to Ottomans. They were the most expensive, reaching up to 500 pounds sterling and the most popular with the Turks.

>>
>>56990513
How do you feel about the Abkhazians in Turkey? Do you guys even acknowledge them?
>>
>>56990443
Janissaries were recruited from children of all Christian peoples inhabiting the empire through the system of devshirme (except for Armenians, who, for some reason, could make careers only in civil service).
>>56990373
>The Circassians in the Ottoman Empire struggled to survive in unfamiliar and sometimeshostile locations of settlement, and to adopt new conditions in the second half of the 19thcentury. The era of Abdülhamid II (1876-1909) imposed restrictions of national andcultural resurgence of the Circassians, as exemplified by the demolition of the Gedikpasha
Theater in 1884 after a play called the “Circassian Nobles” (Çerkes Özdenleri).

no they don't, circassian language is even thought in schools nowadays for the circassian minority.
my mother side are circassians and they all speaks circassian quite fluently and are mostly turkish nationalists whilst also attending circassian cultural activities. there are festivals, communities, dance courses etc everywhere in turkey for the cultural minority groups. all these minority groups are all well integrated members of the turkish society, except for the kurds

so stop trying to smear shit on turkey with your lies russki fag

Could you write in Georgian and Mingrelian Latin transcription a phrase like "in the morning I will drink green tea with bread and cheese"? It's purely a linguistic interest.
>>
>>56991170
There is a lot of Georgians here in Brookyln they make great bread in stone ovens it's great.

In Turkey the Georgians and Abkhazians live side by side. They intermarry with them and the Lazgin.

well, intellegibility is almost none between them, i mean you'll catch few similar words but that's it.
Laz and Mingrelian share a lot though. I can understand main plot of Laz speech.
