>t. been in a serious crash caused by my own stupidity and miscalculation.
>t. this makes me an objectively better driver now. I know where the envelope is.

So many people think that just staying inside of the envelope is safer than finding out where the inside actually is. Like the wheel grabber in the vid, he probably has less of an idea how to rebalance the car than the driver, given that the driver feels both the traction in his feet and the resistance in the wheel.

>>56968154
Yeah, I've been known as the "belt nazi" whenever I do van driving missions for workplaces. I will hear a click or I will not let go of the clutch. My drive, my rules.

>>
>>56968465
Manual is cheaper to replace if you're a europoor, which I am.

Also, I don't like the 5% variance between the car's decision to shift and my own. I want to decide whether to slowly ax up in 3rd gear or slam it down to 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
>>
>>56968595
How do you even use motor stopping on automatics
Say for example you are going down a steep and you would choose 2nd gear and let the car roll
How is this possible on an automatic, if at all?
>>
>>56968708
There's 1-2-3-4- gear settings on most automats. Setting it in D is "overdrive" meaning it will shift up to 5th or 6th gear depending on what is highest.

Setting it in 1-4 will limit it from shifting up, so you can use engine braking that way.

There's also cruise control doing this automatically on newer cars.

If I'm with friends I typically don't wear a seatbelt in the back. It's only required to buckle up if you're in the front seats here.

If I'm with mommy & daddy I always buckle up for the gud boi points.
>>
>>56968913
>it's only required

You realize the front seat mounting brackets for weight and cost reasons are in no way dimensioned to handle a 200 lb gorilla slamming into the back at speed, right? You're effectively signing the death irresponsibility waiver for your "friends" when you don't wear a belt. High energy damage is hard to fix.

Yes I know I really shouldn't, but I'm just pointing out that it isn't illegal to not buckle up in the back here. I actually wish they would change the law, but it's probably connected to the fact that if the local government tried to require motorcyclists to wear helmets, they'd cry GOMMUNISM.

Luckily I haven't interacted with my friends in months so it hasn't been an issue. :^)
>>
>>56969089
Old people. Immigrant women.

People with too low self esteem to handle a one ton torpedo with wheels. "oh dear, better not rock the boat" instead of "FUCK U TURN NOW". It's some kind of mental paralysis. They don't even slow down for the fucking cops ffs.

>>56969091
Honestly I think a certain degree of reckless driving is forgivable. If you seek out late night empty roads, use your high beams and act as if every corner, every bend and every blind angle has a small child and a semi trailer behind it, you can do it "safely". It's not inherently dangerous to drive within the aforementioned "envelope" of the car, and there's only one way to find out where that ends, that is driving faster than the speed limit and driving smarter than the rest.

What kind of car do you drive, Pekka?
>pic related was mine before i couldn't afford keeping it

>>56969420
What Mikis said. There is one place I would count on the darkness and lateness to be safe and that is up north where there's like 3000 people in a 30km radius. Only because you can see the lights of the cars before you even get close to the bend.

I also never take blind turns unless I've been able to see the road further ahead and know there hasn't been a car coming towards me for like five minutes + utter darkness.

The trick is to flip your high beams off and on when nearing the corner, so you can see the other guy's lights better.

Moose is the most dangerous animal in Norway for this reason. The most moose-dense places are the places with the biggest race driving culture and cars like pic related.

But if you've paid attention in class you know the deer animals usually cross roads at dusk, and rarely after 1 in the morning until right before dawn. Besides we have wildlife crossings and wildlife fences here too, desu.

driving in america is about practicality, we live in our cars, and most of driving in america is either going in straight lines for a really really long time, or going nowhere at all for a really really long time.

we use automatics for the same reason we have cupholders everywhere.

I honestly dont understand how europe has managed to delude themselves into thinking manual is better than automatic for commuting or traveling long distances.

Is it really because it was harder to get automatics in europe early on so they they developed a superiority complex about using more dated technology?

Oh well, all europeans will be driving camels soon anyway.
