That's suprising. It seems to be the opposite in Norway. Everyone in my city has been to our tourist attractions like Sverresborg, Nidarosdommen etc. Everyone in Oslo has seen the Akershus Castle, the Opera house and so on.
Granted, our cities are small enough that you can do it easily and without needing much planning, and our tourist attractions are popular hang outs for groups of friends, couples etc. There's also a norwegian mentality of exploring as much as you can.
