What I think you mean to say is each state has an EQUITABLE representation in the vote
Smaller states get relatively more say in the vote and Larger states get relatively less say in the vote (California for example, gets 55 Votes, but If It was proportional to population, they would get 65).
The states do not get an "equal" representation at all, It is very unfair from a proportional point of view.
From a social justice "We need to defend the little states" point of view, It is fair.
The biggest problem with the EC is not the disproportional representation of the states, It's the winner take all of the votes (You win a state by 1 vote (Unless It's Nebraska and Maine, which use proportional) and you get 100% of It's votes) and the first past the post voting method (Only need plurality of the vote, not the majority), which means makes any alternative outside of Dem or Republican not only completely pointless but actively hurts the one you support more. America badly needs Instant Run Off voting or at the very least to hold second rounds of voting.

we arent a democracy, we are a union of soverign states who agreed to come together under a greater organization.
Each state elects representatives for this organization, in two groups. One group based on state population, the other group totaly equal across all states. In this way if larger states try to bully smaller ones, the latter can block them, and likewise if larger states are getting bullied by a large number of smaller states, the former can block them.
The president is just our supreme military commander, as well as a filter for new laws (laws with only marginal support he can block, but not ones with lots of support).
Because he is theoretically going to be commanding the joint martial forces of the sovereign states, every state has to have a meaningful say in who he is. In this way the weight of each states votes are adjusted some. Small states voices can still be somewhat relevant, and large states, while having more say, do not have the ability to strongarm the entire union to bend to their will. These are guarenteed. Our entire system of government is layers of guarentees to make sure that nobody becomes too influential.
Pure democracy is crap and our founders said as much.
