It's only hard the first few times if you're not used to that particular car, or it's a shitty 1L 3cyl ecobox that's easy to stall.
Over there you drive cars with big engines it's going to be easy to learn, my 15yo cousin got the hang of it in a day once I explained it to him.
>>
>>56789513
Then why does the M6 come with a manual option only in the US?
>>
Don't trucks still have manual transmission?

Must be pretty dangerous otherwise

So American truck drivers must know how to drive manual
>>
>>56790254
just move up a gear while holding the clutch when the engine gets loud and hold the clutch when you break and start the car. Also don't let go of the clutch too quickly or people behind you will get angry and honk at you.
>>
>>56792715
Trucks can be made with either system. Actually, Muricans still manufacture Non-synchronous transmission, which is pretty cool.

Automatic>Manual

Same fuel economy on newer cars, repairs cost rougly the same, you can't misshift in an automatic, you don't need to use a clutch to disengage/engage gears, you don't need to switch gears constantly, etc.,...

If you live in a city a manual car isn't "fun" or helps to "save" gas thanks to stop and go traffic.

Overall no one here on this board owns an exotic car to really get the thrill of driving manual...
>>
>>56789513
What's the correct sequence to switching gears? I tried a stick shift once, and the car kept shutting off on me.

clutch in, slowly depress accelerator and then begin to release clutch. Once your revs start to max out, depress clutch and move into the next gear up.

Trufax from an Ameriburger

I do not know how to drive manual. I would like to learn, but there is not an easy opportunity to do so. It's not big on the priority list either.

My dad owned a manual once when I was like a toddler, but later all the cars (minivans and wagons, etc) were automatic family-movers. The only cars I've driven, with one exception of borrowing a friend's, were those family vehicles and then eventually my own (also automatic).

Once at work, another friendly acquaintence (not really a friend but we got on well) asked me to move his car for some reason, mentioning that it was a manual. I informed him that he didn't want me fucking up his car, so he should ask someone else. He smirked and did so.

In my defense, at this old job I had an opportunity to operate about a dozen different fork lifts, and I always felt pretty manly driving those.
>>
>>56800136

>>
>>56794346
Why are there so many city fags on this board? Honestly just shift four times to get to fifth, then drive for half an hour, then neutral till you stop. It's not really that annoying...
>>
I can drive a stick, but why the fuck would I own a manual transmission car when I live in a city? Traffic is absolutely cancer.
>>
>>56789513
It's the current year, if you still drive a manual car you're just an idiot.
>>
>>56794346
I still squeeze in the odd track day, so I'll always have at least 1 car that's a manual
Plus I can fix a manual trans if I have to with basic tools and a torque wrench
>>
>>56793344
Yeah but a large part of the battle for the learner (and, therefore, the American) is knowing when to change gear. Todd, Jared and Corey won't have a clue.

You don't drive manual for cheaper costs/better real-world fuel econ, or any of that shit, you fucking SUV normalfags. You do it because it's fun, gives you more control, more engaging, and therefore safer because you actually pay attention when you drive. Unless you spend more time in bumper-to-bumper uphull traffic than anywhere else, there's no discomfort or annoyance in shifting your own gears. I've done both, and I'll take stick every time.

Your right hand is only occupied maybe 5% of the time. The shifting motion takes half a second to do. Once you're in gear, take your hand off the stick and grab your other stick.
>>
>>56807278
It is if you're driving a car made in the past 5 years. Besides, even if it wasn't the case - 99% of people who drive a manual don't even drive it properly to account for efficiency anyway. Most plebs just like to snap the stick around to feel like Vin Diesel.
