Mexico will continue to be one of the fastest growing economies in the coming decades. The standard of living won't improve much, part of why their economy will grow is because wages are lower than China. If you fix the cartel problem, wages will increase, and manufacturing will go back to Asia.

Wages in Mexico are actually higher than in China. It's cheaper to do business there due to lighter tariffs, better tax policy and free trade agreements. Narco crap has nothing to do with wages. Mexico could steadily raise their manufacturing wages in lockstep with the developed world as long as it stays at least 75% cheaper and firms still would not flee to China due to the aforementioned reasons. German automakers and Japanese companies are already incrementally raising their wages in Mexico, just slowly at about 1.5%~5% per year to attract better workers.
Mexico already has more semi-skilled and skilled labor jobs available than workers who are qualified for them. Audi and Mercedes had issues with this when they started looking for employees in Mexico for their new factories. Foreign firms typically either have to spend money training people or offer better wages to attract already trained employed people to their firms. Mexico recently started modifying their educational system to train people for higher wage jobs to remedy this. It's payed off big in the aerospace and tech industries.
