Just because on a map Russia is right and the US left, doesn't mean the missiles go that way. The earth is round, you know? Not even the Sprint missile could intercept Russian ICBMs from Poland or from the Aleutian Island if the ICBMs are going over the north pole to the US. By the time the radar has determined the trajectory in order to compute an intercept course the ICBM has a head start of many thousands of kilometers and is already at full speed. They can only intercept if the trajectory leads fairly narrowly over the place of the missiles. And even then it's a race against time.

We both have hypersonic nuclear cruise missiles. That's one of the reasons why things are getting tense between us.
Nobody talks about it but we have both been updating our nuclear arsenals all this time as if the Cold War had never ended.
