Alsace. Strasbourg is the most beautiful city in the world and the fact that the region is controlled by France causes eternal German butthurt.

The Massif Central would be good choice I guess. A lot of outdoor stuff: good and easy hiking, not densily populated, top tier-food (a lot of cheeses and saucissons/various cured meats from here), and less touristic than the Alps, more quiet.
The food in south western France is top tier too, the nature is less impressive but really comfy
