I want to learn this language
Can someone please direct me to a video series that teaches it?
Or if you know of a good book or DVD that I can buy?
I can't afford Rosetta Stone. and please dont suggest duolingo either.
How long does it take to learn?

>>56640730
>muh English
Gadhlig or geaulig?
>>56640481
kek at the assblasted britbong
>>56640782
just said i identified as an american you autist. i only brought up that i was of 100 percent english descent to explain that me wanting to learn gaelic had nothing to do with 'muh scottish or irish heritage' because i have ZERO
im an AMERICAN who just thought this language sounded cool so i wanted to learn it
can people do anything without you assigning some 'impure' motive to it?
>>56640421
You can teach it yourself by listening to gaelic folk music and singing along (using phonetics and common sense).
Once you know the words you can look up their meaning.
As time goes by you'll know a bit more, you could be able to talk to other people and practice.
That's when you learn the most.
>>56640906
OP, don't try to explain yourself to him. Europoors are the most arrogant faggots on this board.
I take it you're new?
>>56641002
new to this board
Good thread
>>56640954
>you can learn any language by listening to the music!
>>56640481
I agree. Why would you want to learn a language that is going to drop dead any minute?
>>56641115
Any thread that asspains the UK is a good thread in my eyes.
>>56640421
>dont suggest duolingo either
Why tho?
>>56641197
you guys think i want to learn it for practical reasons. i want to learn it cause i think the language sounds cool
not everything you do has to be for usefulness
why would people watch tv if its not gonna help them get a job? cause they think the show is cool
Gaelic is a language family. Gaeilge and GĂ idhlig are languages.
>>56641298
I wouldn't tell you to not do it, but learning a language takes way more effort than watching a TV show. Wouldn't you want a bigger reward for your studies?
>>56641218
not him but ive heard duingo is shot and you dont really learn too much from them
>>56641354
i'm gonna learn spanish too
which will provide more opportunities for jobs
every day when i get home from work i just shitpost and watch tv until i go to bed, and i dont really enjoy either right now
so i figure with all this free time i should be able to have time for both languages

welsh folk songs known by you: 0
>>56641845
You will never find a single person that speaks only irish and not english as well. There is next to no content in the language.
There is no reason to learn the language unless you are a hipster heritage faggot
>>56641367
Duolingo isn't gonna hurt you. It's really good for basics. Just use it anyway.
>>56642028
My grandfather was a monolingual Irish speaker, and I myself speak it as my first language.
Anyone speak Breton/Brezhoneg here ? It's the language of Britania/Bretagne in france
Trugare
>>56641318
Ok which one did the ancient Irish use.
>>56642085

>>56642170
Hes dead 24 years now
>>56642214
and by all means there is probably 5 people living in the middle of the country who are 90 years old that might not know english. But as time goes on, monolingual Irish speakers will be extinct.
>>56642214
yeah, that one. been listening to a lot of trad. Irish music. it makes my ears orgasm every time i hear it.
Gaelic is pig disgusting it's like a Scandinavian language mixed with Dutch
>>56641298
>i want to learn it cause i think the language sounds cool
protip: you'll never learn it with this reason
>>56642464
says the ass blasted "muh empire" arab cuck.
>>56642324
That's what happens. The language got an unfair start in the modern world. But in today's society, English is handy to have. However, Irish is far from dead though. I've been through school and college through it, speak it at home with family and friends. I've never spoken English to my father, grandfather, and my doctor.
>>56642324
>let me tell you about your own country
Which one? There's Irish, Scottish and Manx Gaelic. Irish is the most spoken mostly due to the fact the Irish government has it taught in schools. Scottish Gaelic isn't very spoken at all however it could be quite cool to learn as it retains rather archaic features, it is much more similar to old Irish than modern Irish is. Manx is an odd one, it's similar to Scottish Gaelic but it's writing system is largely based off of English orthography so it ends up looking very odd when written in comparison to Irish and Scottish.

Whichever ones easier

many people want to learn a language "because it sounds cool" bud, but learning it because it's cool will not motivate you to learn to fluency
t. bilingual
>>56643631
I'm also gonna learn Spanish which I'm doing solely for career purposes
That's more than motivation to see me through it
I'm hoping that once I've built up the discipline to learn a different language (Spanish) that that will transfer over to gaelic
>>56642085
>My grandfather was a monolingual Irish speaker
bullshit
>>56644003
Okay
>>56644069
tg4 did a documentary on the last monolingual irish speaker from the 70's/80's and there's not a chance he lived til 1992 so i know for a fact youre talking through your hole

>>56644704
nigga im playin risk, im not going to take it off every time i wanna talk on this board in between posts.
op are you underage and from /b/?
the best way to learn a language is to learn the basics first (you can learn basic irish on duolingo) and then read books in the language, watch tv in the language, utilise your basic knowledge to try and understand as best you can. take notes on what the tv program/book/magazine/whatever is about. then the ultimate test is to try conversational skills and talk with somebody who is fluent in the language (there must be a few in the US, a lot of heritage clubs that teach it i think)
>>56644835
What a fucking faggot
>>56645217
