This is wrong thinking. People vote for Trump because they are sick of the current political establishment, they are sick of lobbyists ruining the country, they are sick of international nation building (like in yours) and they are sick of the country being run by corporations.
Trump is the only candidate that will actually change anything.

>decent human being
What is a decent human being?
For the last 2000 years it's been: turn the other cheek, love thine enemies, a rich man can't enter heaven so give all your money to the poor, the meek shall inherit the earth. That's a very Swedish philosophy and is the antithesis of Donald Trump's outlook so I can see how you'd feel that way. Many young and/or female Americans feel the same way.
However, I posit a different definition of being a decent human being: supporting myself and my family without burdening others, being able to defend myself from most existential threats without relying on others, and thinking of modern events in the context of historical events so as to help guide our nation (and thus myself and my family) away from existential threats that are not immediately threatening in the way that things like terrorism or nuclear escalation are

This.

People in the US are sick of the political establishment, which is why Trump has gained so much traction. We're sick of being put after everyone else, be it Israelis, illegal Mexicans and Central Americans, Cubans, etc.

When you have both the Republican and Democrats attacking one candidate, and all the media actively attacking him, it's strange. To the point where George Soros pays off people to disrupt his rallies.

And it isn't "dumb white hillbillies" voting for him, it's people of various ethnicities within the US.

Granted >>56585458 is also right too, local government will have more effect on your life than big government.

At least Sanders has a consistent and thought plan. Eveyday I'm more convinced that whoever America votes, it's not actually going to be better than Obama. In fact, if any other Republican candidate had won America would be better off
>>
>>56585233
So you're saying they're frustrated but not confused? Because I say they're confused because Trump isn't going to change any of that.
If you trace all of these issues and ask how did they start, you'll find that the cause is the growing power of corporations.
Now the issues Trump is addressing are legitimate, but he isn't proposing a true solution. He's saying repeating over and over that he isn't a puppet of corporations, and that might be true, but he isn't telling us he's going to limit their power. In fact, his neoliberal economic plans, or whatever his short comments hint towards, suggest that he's simply going to give corporations more power. Hence his supporters, and quite possibly he himself, are confused.

>>

What?
You need power to change things. Everyone in power is a hypocrite.
Trump is simply the least establishment candidate.

All you need to look at is the fact the media establishment and Republican establishment is DESPERATELY trying to stop him to see that he is agaisnt the establishment.
>>
>>56586133
The problem with that example is that steel is a strategic asset and we have plenty of other tariffs and protections on agricultural products such as sugar and corn. In the case of sugar, we have fucking quotas and other protections that would prevent the price from going down substantially.

China can do what it wants with it's currency since we have no formal free trade agreement with them and because of the size of it's market at this point.

>>
What does he mean by this?
>>
>>56586389
We are part of the WTO. That means any tariff we put on them they can respond in kind to.

Currency manipulation is banned by the WTO, but good luck stopping major powers from doing it.

This discussion got offtrack.

I'm simply saying that a threat of a tariff on China will move them closer to the liberalization of their currency. People who claim Trump is insane forget that we have an average 20-30% tariff on many Chinese goods. Obama's DoC put a 1200% tariff on steel recently to protect blue dog states.
But if Congress didn't want this they can overrule the DoC.

>>56586452
I'd argue Bernie Sanders is far less establishment than Trump. The only argument against him from you that I can accept as legitimate is his stances on minorities and feminism and all that.
He's the only candidate that refused to speak to AIPAC and has consistently voted for for laws that are hostile towards the federal reserve and against trade agreements with China. He's the only guy I could see becoming a pain in the corporate but if elected.
Too bad he won't get elected.
>>
>>56586711
You're right in regards to WTO rules. Again, the problem is that at this point, China's economy is so massive that it can subvert the rules at this point.

That isn't to say they shouldn't liberalize their currency because I would agree that they should.

The threat of a tariff is idiotic mostly because it would hurt U.S consumers since it would raise the costs of consumer goods. Steel isn't a consumer good so Obama can get away with raising it 1200%. Also, there is a political economy dimension to it as well.

I'm an immigrant myself, and I just don't understand how people who came here legally would not support Trump, especially since illegal immigrants make a mockery of the laws of the country they want to immigrate to. If they wish to come here legally, by all means, but they must follow the law.
