Lockout laws are stupid. It's a work-around. What we need is for the police to crack the skulls of anybody who gets too rowdy; drag them away in a black van. Failing that, I suppose lockout laws are at least a good effort.

Frankly there's a lot more wrong with "clubbing" than just those people who get violent or destructive. Drinking too much, "hook-up" behaviour, illegal drugs, involvement of organised crime, etc. - it should all go. What we need is to ban anything that isn't a nice quiet pub or cocktail bar. I think maximum music volume and minimum lighting regulations would be a good start.
