Why did we lose our English accents?
>>56559932
Because Canadians, much like their American brethren, lost the irrational fear of consonants that is inherent in all British-born people over a seemingly short period of time.
Hence why you actually say "British," as opposed to "Bri'ish."
We never had modern English accents. American English and British English have both evolved from what was spoken during the colonial era.
>>56559932
Because Received Pronounciation only became standard in Britain after the 18th century. American accents are actually closest to English spoken before American independence. So the question should really be why the British accent changed so much the past two centuries.

But if he spoke like an American he would say "Bridish" as opposed to "British" as you all have disabled mouths.
>>56559932
Because we're americanized, and are basically america lite. Some people will protest, but aside from our govt system and money, nobody really cares about england or the monarch, just being realistic, I respect and love our Queen as the next guy.

I just respect her, I know she doesn't give a fuck about me or my country, but I will still respect her, why you ask? because nobody gives a fuck anymore, and maybe I don't either but the idea of a powerful house that maybe pays a little attention too, makes me think that maybe they care a little bit, because aside from our British past, we have no identity, other than this modern multicultural bullshit.

Z is better and not even American. Dickens and Wilde both used it. Just in the late nineteenth century the poms tried really hard to make their language as French as possible, thus they have "programme" and "racquet"
