If you feel so Venetian you should learn some recent history about it, not just a map of its former clay. Over 3,000,000 Veneti emigrated between the 19th and 20th century, they were the region with the largest number of emigrants, and, as I said, you were no different from the other Southerners, at the eyes of the non poor Northerners. Maybe it could have been better if it stayed with Austria, but as an independent republic it would have been shit for sure. It's easy to become rich if you're near rich regions, but it's not that easy if those regions are in a different countries and maybe they're even your enemies.
