Car lanes are better maintained, especially during winter. For example, where I live, car lines don't have gravel anymore, where bike- and pedestrian lanes are full of it.

Make it a 60km/h zone and add an endless stream of oncoming vehicles to make overtaking impossible, and that's pretty much my summer drive feels.
Spring is here, so there's a lot of butthurt drivers complaining about cyclists. What they don't realize is of course that the more people who ride their bike to work, the fewer cars are on the road. As a person who both drives and cycles a lot, I have yet to encounter any conflicts. Probably because I don't act like a dick on my bicycle and I'm not an impatient asshole behind the steering wheel.

The unpleasant climate, long distances and difficult terrain make Reykjavík a poor contender for a bicycle city. Regretfully, there's still a bunch of grown ups sin spandex on the motorways anyway. Downtown it isn't a problem since traffic there is always shit anyway.
