What is it like to live in a poor country?

Serious question

Seriously how do you Eastern Europeans and South Americans live on these salaries?
>>

The cost of life is also cheaper. But yeah, we have a worse quality of life than you.

Cost of living means you can get by on less, and you adjust your expectations accordingly
Also you learn to pretty much ignore half the country, and focus on your little safe zone.
Also you live with your parents forever
>>
basics are cheaper
we pirate everything
we live with our parents longer

How cheap?

How much does stuff like gas and apples cost?

I know a family friend who lives in Bangkok. He says he can go outside his apartment to the street food vendors and spend the equivalent of 75 cents on a MASSIVE plate of freshly made food. I think that is interesting. I really want to go to Thailand now for that ridiculous exchange rate and uh.... things....

Should I just hang out in one of these countries next year lads?

I've genuinely been thinking about it too.

Granted I'm broke because I fell for the "get a degree" meme and my parents aren't loaded. But provided the CAD recovers a bit, I don't see why I could not retire at age 45 to some place quiet.
>>
Minimal wage here is around 630.000 COP or so, which is like 210 USD, and with that you can never hope to get by every month unless you live in a commie block in a questionable zone

Certainly even though most things are considerably cheaper, many countries like mine have a minimal wage that is nowhere enough to live comfortably, so lots of people have to get two works or do side stuff to get enough
>>
My aunt back in Burma makes equivelant to 70k USD
>>
>>56469843
I earn $900 per month after taxes, which is a bit more than national average I believe.
The most basic life needs cost me monthly:
~$110 for accomodation
~$150 for food
~$50 for alcohol
~$25 for phone and internet
That leaves me with about $550 per month of disposable income.
It's not that bad I guess, because most of stuff is much cheaper. It sucks big time when you are buying commodities such as cars or electronics though.
>>
>>56470446
What percentage of the thai minimum wage is that? Maybe .75 is the equivalent of 3 hours of work.
>>
>>56469905
>The cost of life is also cheaper.

You what? I know for a fact basic food, water and housing prices are extremely high in Latin America including Argentina

It's very typical for both family members in Serbia to work 60hr+ weeks to compensate for living expenses

>>56472156
> $900 per month after taxes

How did you make this much in poland when the majority of the population is making 600$
>>
>>56470446
You know, if you are travelling to Thailand alone, you don't even need to bother with making shit up why you go there, because everyone just knows.
>>
>>56472156
what's your accommodations like?

after taxes I make around 2.2k a month, but my rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is 1k. that's kind of a good deal in my area.
>>
>>56472204
>How did you make this much in poland when the majority of the population is making 600$
IT support, working for western company.
I'm at "work" right now

Also, programmers with just few years of experience can easily make nearly western wages here, talking about >$2k per month after taxes.
>>
>>56472213
I own a 40 sq meter apartment in Warsaw. If I were to rent in from someone, it would probably cost me around ~$300-350. That's why so many young people in here stay with their parents or just rent a single room.

>Pretending

Pretty good life at the moment.

>>
>>56472341
Most young people do the rent a room thing too or stay with their parents. Living alone is nice though.

Buying an apartment here costs as much as a house and my wages are too low to afford a mortgage. Even my rental landlords made me get my parents to co-sign my rental lease because they considered me poor. My previous apartment gave me a good reference since I never missed a payment and they still didn't trust me. Feels like shit.
>>
>>56472433
>Buying an apartment here costs as much as a house and my wages are too low to afford a mortgage.
Well, despite me earning more than national average, I still would have to save up for like 10 years to buy the apartment I have right now. Luckily, I come from upper-middle class family so my parents bought me it when I started uni.

I make little money from renting 2 commie blocks. Working for 200$ a month is for losers. Never gonna do it, I will shoot my brains out before that.
If I was not a lazy insecure NEET bastard, I would be making money in the West right now, renting cheap and living like a cockroach in 1 apartment with 8 other slavs. But I love privacy and it's too much work.

I maybe need to try my luck in the next 5 years, because the stupid EU can be R.I.P soon.

Girlfriends etc. You can't live on minimal wage but putting two minimal wages together you can make a living. Also many live with their parents, for poor families is quite common to have grandparents, cousins, everyone living in the same home.

>Mfw European pricing is is almost the same as Mexican, because the euro suddenly became next to worthless

Thank you Greece :3
>>
My salary is $580 a month. It is only enough to pay bills for my commieblock, internet, mobile, etc. and buy food. I can't even afford train tickets, so I run away when see inspectors or conductors. Haven't bought new clothes for a year. My phone is 5 years old Nexus 4. I never spent vacation abroad (had business visits to Europe and USA though). I don't go to restaurants or anywhere else, cinema is the best go out I could afford. The only good thing is that I work in consulting and we have a $150 raise every 3 months, so in 3-4 years hope I could scramble out of poverty.
>>
>>56469843
That's hard. I sit all day at home and shipost to compensate lack of communication, since I have no money to go anywhere and there;s actually nowhere to go.

It's not rent, I own an apartment in a commieblock. That $110 is for water/electricity/gas/trash/general block maintenance.
If I were to rent it, I would pay around ~$350.

You want a proper answer?
Genocide all the niggers and replace them. Not kidding.

The main issues preventing proper development are:
- Rule of Law (They don't want this, impossible to force them to enforce the law they don't care for)
- Terrible property law and conveyancing. (Recommended their reform to the Torrens System)
- Corruption is unbelievable, every dollar in tax translates to something like 0.15 cents in government spending after corruption and bureaucracy.
- AWFUL legal code, literally 200 years old and entirely confusing. (Recommended Napoleonic Law Code, importing French lawyers and judges to review and recommend on french law)
- All the natives speak Creole shitspeak and the Elites all speak french. (Recommended standardizing and replacing the language with French)

They should try experimenting with a specially administrated zone leased to a development corporation. But the place is such a shithole, it would require enormous foreign aid to do so.

I could tell you a lot about Serbia as a Serb but I guess that its same shit in all world countries that are similar to us.
First of all you got better life quality for sure.
Cost of living in here is cheaper a lot, healthcare is free, education is almost free, food is healthier and cheap, there is a lot of coruption etc....so those stats cant be acurate trust me.
The thing is 99% of directors have their employers on minimum vage and its like 200$, the other part is given "under the desk" or in cash unregistered so they could avoid taxes and so on.
My 2 friends do programming and they have ~1200$
My 2 other firends are flight control trafficers and they got ~3000$
My gf is fitness trainer and she has ~600$, the funny thing is she is registered as unempoloyed, she gets her sallary directly in hands, NO TAXES for her boss. She takes some money for unemployed citizen given by state, so her incomes are ~700$/month, and her parents give her ~200$/month and that it.
I study/work/do some shits and play poker, my incomes are something like 500$/month in general, also I live/eat and sleep at parrents house or at my gf's house.
To be honest I do some ilegal shits and have some hits like 5k in month and than I drink/drugs and do nothing until I spend all.
One friend is laywer and he has ~800$/month.
5friends do some low paying jobs and its like 400$ month.
If you buy car in here, it wouldnt be automatic v8 petrol car, it would be some 1,5 litter diezel.
You wont buy every new Apple shit in preorder in Serbia and newest gadgets for fools.
You will eat less in restourants in here compared to west.
No expensive vacations, or not at all for some people.
No clothes/furniture/tech etc....buying when is not overused or used enough.
All other things are really the same trust me, stories like you would be GOD in here as American are crap, I got 20friends in EU/USA and they work all day and work hard for a litlle more benefits. I guess I helped.
>>
You live with parents until you find someone to marry

you don't buy clothes pretty much at all unless you're a girl

you go out to party with 10$ in your pocket

you don't eat at restaurants, only home and occasional fast food

you very rarely go to vacation somewhere

you just shitpost on the internet
>>
Best argument for independent floating currencies is it means local economic basket cases can actually balance prices and wages. We have a bunch of places in Australia where things suck a bit because no one has a comparable income to the Australian average but prices are the same as everywhere else.
>>

Everything is bazillion times cheaper. We have exactly the same shit you do, it just costs much much cheaper. Not even to mention that most paychecks are received 'under the desk' in order to avoid some taxes

>>
>>56478033
Most things yes, but not everything. Surely imported things like computer parts etc. are expensive (maybe not quite as expensive as here for example but still), and you're more limited on who can afford to go on vacations abroad and the locations of those vacations.
