The Spanish weren't half bad though. From what I can tell they weren't terribly oppressive in Flipland unlike some regions in Latin America. They also helped stop the spread of Islam in the Philippines and brought things like stone masonry. Trade through Flipland relied on transporting things from Spain through Latin America (namely Mexico, where they were also governed from) to the rest of Asia and vice versa, so I'm not quite sure how beneficial staying with Spain would of been after losing their Latin American colonies.
