See the thing know one knows is that the Russians are itching hard to make a claim in the North Pole area, doing intense research on continental shelves, even going so far as to plant a flag with a submarine on questionable territory.
Harper was very big on protecting sovereignty in that area, both in the name of Canada and working in conjunction with the United States to make sure the Russians stay the fuck out and don't claim territory that is not theirs.
But ever since DUDE WEED got elected, haven't heard a peep about it. It wasn't even part of his election platform, while Harper had Arctic sovereignty as a major part of his foreign policy plan.
