Is it just me or is the act of seeing a film in theatres primarily an American/Canadian (and Indian?) thing? As you go down the list the # of admissions begins to decrease rapidly, suggesting that film isn't a very popular medium in many countries, or just that people buy a lot of films on DVD? Not sure how it works, but it's interesting to consider.

WTF I love India now!

From my own experience, most people don't avidly keep up with new films here. It's more of a VERY occasional night out in town on a weekend activity with friends/family.

These are the highest grossing films in the UK. Notice very few of them are recent (1-3 years ago) and most are considered UK films or a UK co-production and the UK doesn't really produce that many films as it is, so it seems like Brits only care if they're the ones behind it.

Yes, people like to support the economy by watching UK-backed films. Also, stuff like Lord of the Ring's and Star Wars are already well known and highly advertised in the newspapers.

>people buy a lot of films on DVD
I think so. I have dozens of DVD's and I've only been the the Cinema a couple of times in my life.

Spectre was so shit. Should have stopped at Skyfall desu.
>>

This is true for me too. Going to the cinema isn't a recurring activity for the vast majority of people here. We usually go out watching movies with friends about 0 to 4 or 5 times a year
>>
It's a thing here but its fucking expensive like everything else
>>
going to the cinema is such a fucking normie thing to do

Here it's almost a weekly thing for the younger people. When I was in junior high school (grade/year 7-8) we went to the movies every weekend, sometimes both on Saturday and Sunday to see the movie TWICE in a row. And we would show up and nearly the entire school was there as well as students from other schools in the area. Sometimes you'll see entire families going out and ocasionally people dedicate a "movie night" for their family. Adults don't go as much (from what I've seen) but they do go quite a lot (maybe 1-2 times a month) on special "date nights" but most of the time they go with their kids to see some animated blockbuster.

well yeah they don't let you in unless you bring a gf
>>
>>56295989
is this an actual thing in america?

ive seen it posted on r9k

is it real?
>>
>>56296005

No, but you'll look weird as fuck going to the movies alone. And nobody wants to be surrounded by people they don't know.

Wtf I love India now
>>
>>56294818
that shows nothing. it should include population as well. US+ Canada is 350 mil +
france is 66 mil.
>>
Speaking personally

Cinemas here generally show normie trash and nothing but normie trash. It doesn't appeal to film snobs because the selections are garbage, and the people who actually like watching Marvel films and all that shit all just torrent it because they couldn't care less about the experience of film going.
>>
>>56294818
op is a moron, india , usa, canada are countries with big numbers of people, you need to divide number from table per particular country population to get any meaningful data
>>
I haven't been to a cinema since they started the whole no-singles policy. I hate this country..
>>
>>56296141

Watching a movie alone is sad anyway
>>

this. last time i went i got in by pretending to be part of a large group- i just hung around the back of them. unfortunately they were seeing a different movie than me and i got caught about 30 minutes into star wars. they actually stopped the movie and turned on all the lights, then the manager and a couple security guards came in to escort me out. was the most humiliating experience of life; i'll never go back,

And if you divide the rates, they're still significantly lower.
