Ehh, Africans are adopting European languages more for political reasons. The vast majority of Africans still weren't educated during colonialism. The reason European languages are taking off in Africa is that they are a neutral lingua franca in nations that are often very divided among ethnic (& therefore linguistic) lines. Plus speaking European languages offers tons of business/job opportunities, so it's better than picking an indigenous lingua franca for African governments.
