Firstly, Belgium was never a "horrific colonial power". In fact noone has done more for the Kongo than Belgium has. The hand chopping was only done when it was private property of Leopold. The state had nothing to do with it. And even taking that into account, the Kongo was a much more prosperous and industrialized place when we left and it literally went to shit the second we gave them autonomy.
