You're both born with and develop over time a certain set of sexual attractions to certain images, situations, and genders. People are attracted to certain other people based on those attractions, and those people, depending on the attractions set above, can be of either gender. I believe in the Kinsey Scale, which describes attraction to the same gender on a scale of 0 to 6, with 0 being exclusively heterosexual and 6 being exclusively homosexual. Sexual attraction is a complex thing based on a lot of factors, so boiling it down to 'straight, gay, and bi' is failing to recognize that.
