Why do Americans build wooden houses? There's a children's tale about what happens if you build wooden houses.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Three_Little_Pigs

It happens enough in real life too but Americans don't get it.
>>
Why are trees made of wood?

They're better in cold climates and earthquake zones. Nordic houses are usually wooden also. And houses in Florida are not wooden.

the houses in that picture are near the beach because they are all elevated. It is to avoid flood damage. You cant really build something like that out of brick.
As far as wooden houses go they are really only popular in sub divisions and lower income rural homes.

>You cant really build something like that out of brick.
You can build a tall foundation for the whole house.
>>
>you can literally cut into an american house with an axe or a chainsaw
>if you run into an american house with a car you actually can get inside the house
WTF, I hate USA now.
>>
>flood damage
>house is condemned by the city and not allowed to touch it

I hate wooden houses with a passion even third world countries in Latin America have stronger houses...

>not building your house out of wood
what if there's an earthquake?
>>

You can build houses on concrete stilts. Don't bullshit us.
>>

You can built a flexible steel framed house.

What if there's a big bad wolf to blow it?

Stick wins every time though
>>
>>56078107
Dude no. Even large houses in the North are made from wood. It's a way better insulator than brick or concrete.

You're not really helping your case here.

I watching that video and the guy claims it's about the same price.
>>
>>56078044
They are cheap, sturdy, and using other cheap materials they are well-insulated. The only place I think you would really want to not have a wooden house in the US is the Gulf Coast, Tornado Alley if you can afford a better house, or some place that floods often. For the latter you could just put it on stilts.
>>
>>56078588
I'm a busy man
>>
>>56078589
It doesn't matter what you build a home out of if a tornado goes through it that's the end of the house. Plus most houses here are brick or concrete

And those houses are usually built by the owners themselves.

They can figure out how to build a sturdy house. By themselves. Your average poor Brazilian just asks himself what is the better material for house building and gets it right everytime. Maybe because they were read Three Little Pigs when they were children.

>tornadoes can't destroy brick houses!
>>
>>56078556
The greatest advantage seem to be that houses are built in lower quality regardless of materials. So because steel don't flex a lot over time, and is somewhat sturdy, the quality increase is beneficial over time.

The other thing is: Its the frame of the house. It will be the last thing to break naturally. Walls tend to break apart from mold long before that, and bugs infestations literally forces you to burn and rebuild the house.
>>
>>56078877
>tornadoes
I'm so sorry

>>56078877
That's not brick but brick veneer? The flat bricks are a given...

Yes.

>>56078891
>bugs infestations literally forces you to burn and rebuild the house.
What kind of bugs do you have in Norway?
>>
>>56078877
It's not destroyed. If that was a wooden house, it would've been flattened. Also the roof is wooden.
>>
>>56079020
We don't. Letting the house freeze over for 2-4 days will literally purge everything but the most resilient eggs.
All our bug infestations is modern, because modern heating allows a house that never goes below 16C during the coldest of winter.
