That's just something that needs to be written as a law so that if idiots do it dangerously or whatever they can actually get arrested.
I have yet to ever see, or hear of anyone to get arrested or fined for jaywalking unironically.
Unless you're in a residential neighborhood crossing the street outside of a crosswalk is extremely dangerous. You're trying to cut across 6 lanes of cars going 50mph+ (80km+). That said, I've never heard of anyone actually getting arrested for jaywalking, it's like sodomy laws sure they're technically on the books but outside of extreme situations no one actually gets punished for doing it.

Americans have a lot of cars. If someone is jaywalking they may not be able to clear the road in time on account of being so fat.

There was a case in New York a while back over some cops that beat the shit out of an 80 year old chinese man because he didn't understand jaywalking was illegal and didn't speak english. He wasn't doing anything dangerous, the cops just needed to fill their quota.

You're forgetting most people on here are from countries where it's normal to have no rules on the road and the DRIVER being responsible for manoveuring around everything.

Just don't expect the driver to take responsibility when someone darts between parked cars and into the street where people are driving 45+mph.
