I think the reason the whole "men just go for douches" meme came to be is because well, if a woman meets a man who is really abrasive yet attractive, it can make her intrerested, there is a kind of subconscious thinking that "this man is curious, a mystery, why is he acting like this towards other people?", even a sort of nurturing side of her coming online as she wants to support this seemingly 'troubled' guy and learn what makes him tick.
