Ironic, since Trump is pretty much a 1900 Jingo a lá Teddy Roosevelt before he became president, and Spain was the "enemy" for a couple of years back then, demonised by the Jingos so much they fought a war against them because an American ship blew itself up.

It literally takes an half a continent and 25+ nations for you to reach the same economic levels as the US or China and you're still only about $1 trillion ahead

PPP index doesn't always work favourably in our countries because of the inflated costs of living. Being from Switzerland I am sure you know how that works.

In the actual total GDP in USD list we're much higher

PPP is far more effective at illustrating the true power of national economic activity. Still pretty sad that you're barely ahead of a headless nation.
>>
>>55785666
PPP is bullshit anyway. I can walk 20 meters and exploit my purchasing power by buying stuff in Germany. It's the USD that count. You don't exclusively spend money in your own cunt.

No.

99% of the expenses in China are done in China. Probably 97% in America and 90% in Canada.

Also, prices are likely nearly as high in the German border town as they are in a Swiss border town. Why would they charge differently? It would just lead to shitty business for the higher priced place.

No. PPP is very useful when you take into account currencies are neither free floating nor perfect proxies of PURCHASING POWER.
1 dollar buys a lot more Californian rice in China than 1 dollar buys of Californian rice in America.

Nominal is a shitty measure as well.

The currency is completely dependent upon central bank policy. How can you consider it a proper reflection on the economy if your CB can just say FUCK IT WE ARE DEVALUING!
>>
Where do you find that?

In latest IMF datas (from October 2015) Spain has a greater GDP than Mexico.

GDP PPP is only interesting when we are talking about GDP per capita to talk about the living standar of any country.

>>55789016
And still I thing that HDI is better for measuring this or even better IHDI.

If you count all 1 trillion Africans as one country, they have the largest economy In the world too!
>>
>>55789638
Remember that there are literally 1.24 billion of them.

Only 124 million Japanese.
>>
>>55789638
It's PPP measurements.
PPP is vastly inflated for countries with large populations, even countries that are poor and produce barely anything beyond subsistence products can be in the top 10 with hundreds of millions of people.
>>
>>55788459
>Why would they charge differently? It would just lead to shitty business for the higher priced place.
Most towns at the German border are 99% residential for this reason. With a few exceptions (Basel).
Prices differ a lot by crossing the Rhine. You can live the same lifestyle with 2000 € north from the Rhine as with 6000 CHF south from it. At a few 100 meters of distance.

It's not the only part of the world this way. See Singapore and Malaysia.
>>
>>55789961
>vastly inflated

No it is relatively accurate. If anything is vastly inflated it is the housing prices of much of the developed world.
>>
>>55790086
That still doesn't explain anything. If prices and cost of living is that drastically different then why do people even live on the Swiss side?

Just have residence in Germany and then drive across for work.

See when I was in Switzerland and Germany (Basel) the prices in Germany and Switzerland were roughly the same. Maybe taxes throw it off, but as far as I could tell they were similar.
