Now you need minivans instead of sedans, a house instead of an apartment (good luck finding a 4BR house where I live), three hotel rooms when you travel, etc. I know it sounds like small stuff, but it all adds up very quickly.

I'd also like to add, even if I can take the financial burden, there's a lot less resources to go around, regarding time, energy, and money (i'd rather raise two kids in an upper middle class lifestyle, and be able to devote myself to them, than four in a middle class lifestyle, and not really be there for them) and I'd presumably have to live even further from work, which would mean my commute would take up most of my time leaving none for the kids.
