If your great grandparents fought in the civil war it is a sign they were also poor. No rich families in the south or the north sent members to fight for the cause of freeing a bunch of black people or for "southern heritage". The same goes for the military today; most of them grow up in rural poorer areas and don't want to work at McDonalds but cant afford college. Rich southern families stayed on their plantations and the lower class took up arms to protect "southern tradition and pride". Rich northerners paid poor immigrants esp Irish and poor country folk to fight their battles.
tldr if your ancestors fought in the civil war they were likely also poor and miserable

All of my parents and grandparents were born in America.
My mother's mother's mother was born in Lithuania and my mother's mother's father was born in Ireland.
My father's father's father's parents were both born in Spain. My father's father's father was born in Cuba, and my father's father's mother's birthplace is unknown but they met in Cuba shortly before escaping to America.
To be more specific my father's mother was born in Maine, my father's father was born in California, and both my mother's parents were born in New Jersey.
