I did a study abroad trip to Toronto. Had to go to all the little cultural enclaves -- Chinatown, Little India, etc
I thought it was pretty nice.
How do people even get patriotic about their city or state? They're just arbitrary political boundaries, and the people move between them fairly often.

They do move between them a lot more than counties, but not as much as you might think. There's enough permanent identity to a city to allow it to become its own cultural entity. London, Paris, Tokyo, NYC, even Montreal, all good examples.
