If nation states without EU would have fared any better in dealing with migrants it would have been only because they were shittier and less attractive. Eastern european countries have it easier doing whatever they want because they're to love babies of Germany and even if they were not they're not expected to behave. Countries west and north of Germany have to act like actual countries.
