my parents are pretty worldly so yeah, they know and they don't mind, but we don't really talk about it with other family
that's an interesting question and i think its important to qualify it by saying japan can't really be held to the same standard as western countries with regards to social values. there's a lot of conservatism to japanese society yes but there was never a judeo-christian tradition here, so the idea that certain sexual practices were immoral never really caught on here. its like with abortion, culturally it was just never a problem, but conversely japan's lgbt community is a result pretty underdeveloped and there's still a lot of stereotypes regarding gay people in schools and businesses and the public at large. last i read like, 51% of people supported gay marriage? but things move so slowly here, couples still can't even take separate surnames, so if it does come it will be at a very slow pace

Most of my family somehow ended up knowing I'm gay and they've all been very positive but they're a bunch of hippies so it's not very surprising. Everyone else I know don't seem to have a problem with gays at all except maybe for the ones who insist on making being gay part of their identity but I hate those too.
