I speak Luxembourgish because I was actually born in Luxembourg and went to primary school there, but I theoretically still live on the exact border between Luxembourgish and local Lorraine-Romance speaking areas ("Gaumais"). The elderly often still speak Luxembourgish between themselves, but the younger ones don't unless they work on the other side of the border. We don't speak Plattdüütsch here though, that language is part of Northern Germany and the Eastern Netherlands.

How come you're so interested? Makes me actually happy to talk about it after a long time

How far from Luxembourg do you live? Is it some weird border situation akin to Baarle-Nassau?

That's a shame, it's a part of the culture there I'm quite sure. Would you say most young people could still speak it if necessary? Like, if you started to speak it in conversation, would they be able to pick up on it?
>How come you're so interested?
I like smaller languages and dialects, and I think Lëtzebuergesch in particular sounds really interesting, considering my knowledge of German. A lot less harsh, flows better.

>>
>>53697955
5 kilometers away or something like that? In a village called Halanzy if you're interested (don't care if people know it, there's at least one other faggot from my village who also posts here). There's no weird border situation at all, just the normal one. We have these weird pillars cutting off Belgian Luxembourg from the Luxembourg country though

>That's a shame, it's a part of the culture there I'm quite sure. Would you say most young people could still speak it if necessary? Like, if you started to speak it in conversation, would they be able to pick up on it?
I think not, it clearly died out on this side of the border, even if the geographic distribution was very small from the beginning as you've seen with the shown above map. A lot of people understand Gaumais and Walloon though and can speak it to a certain degree, thanks to the relative closeness between French and the Gaume dialect/Walloon language. Luxembourgish on the other hand is Germanic, that makes it much more difficult.
A lot of people learn it to work in the Grand Duchy, because they can earn much more if they speak it.
Belgian French is also heavily influenced by Walloon (and Dutch, like Belgian Dutch is heavily influenced by French and Flemish dialects, especially Brabantian)

>I like smaller languages and dialects, and I think Lëtzebuergesch in particular sounds really interesting, considering my knowledge of German. A lot less harsh, flows better.
Yeah, it sounds really comfy, familiar I'd say. I'm actually proud of my Luxembourgish accent when talking Standard German.
I'm also quite interested in smaller dialects and I'm trying to learn Walloon right now.

Tbf I'm kinda slowly losing my Luxembourgish though, as I literally never speak it and haven't spoken it for years. Here in Belgium student folklore is divided into faculty circles and regional circles, and we also have a Grand Duchy one. I literally go every sunday there just to hear them talk my zweet Mammesproch :^)
>>
>>53698597

>I thought Belgian French was Walloon?
Belgian French is just Standard French with some Walloon, Dutch, and other loanwords, sometimes other/older vocabulary (ninety is said nonante instead of quatre-vingts-dix) and some own expressions. Walloon on the other hand is a whole other language that shares the same origin as French, which is also a langue d'Oil.
>Li walon est est mimbe del famile des lingaedjes d' oyi. Eto, i rsaetche bråmint des ôtes lingaedjes romans, come li roumin et l' roumantche, ossu bén pol motî kel croejhete.

>Do Germans have trouble understanding your accent even when you're speaking Standard German?
Not at all, it just sounds very ... farmer-ish if the accent is heavy. Jean-Claude Juncker has a kinda moderate accent when talking in German if you want to know how it sounds.

>Don't let it die m8, the more young people are losing it on a large scale and soon it might perish from everywhere but Luxembourg.
Don't be afraid, I'm doing my best so far. Funnily enough I still count in Luxembourgish and think in it to a certain degree, along with German, English, and Portuguese. I just need to have more free time and start practicing again.

I'm a newfag too I guess I've been around for about 10 month, but I was interested in the regional flage because part of what I like in /int/ is that I always learn new stuff by googling name of cities, countries, wars or whatever people talk about here, and with the regional flag liking me directly to a research I spend hours wandering on wiki

Rattata is shit. They're annoying, they are everywhere, every trainer in the beginning of the game uses them, you keep seeing them on the wild when you wanted to catch other pokemons. Rattatas are like pests, they are like Geodudes, but at least Geodudes stays in their own shitholes like in caves, Rattatas don't, you see them in the beginning of the game, you see them in the end of the game. Fuck Rattata!

At least Zubat, when properly taken care of with love and affection, evolves into a mighty badass Crobat immediately after evolving from a Golbat.
>>

Zubat is the most annoying fucking shit when walking through caves, every two seconds you get attacked by another one.
