In the second they clash both roll a 4 so we make 4 territories from each nation into a war zone.
In the third image the nations battle and the winner takes all of the war zone.
This prevents a nation getting fucked by everyone else because, it allows us to have various battles and war zones simultaneously.
It also encourages newcomers to join anytime on the game because they can win to a stronger enemy in battles.

the bonuses are on the map. you have to fill every territory within the country's borders to get that bonus.
