From my understanding making a living is hard in Brazil. The government has huge import taxes on everything so Brazilians make shopping trips to the states to buy electronic goods etc. Consumer goods are expensive considering after the import tax you end up paying almost as much as it costs in the US or even more, on a much lower salary.

However Brazilians are really wonderful people. Theyre the countries biggest asset. If you wanted to immigrate you would be welcomed by your neighbours and made to feel at home, unlike anywhere in the first world. That and the reason so many foreigners visit Brazil - the women can be gorgeous.

Non imported food and goods are fairly affordable though. The cuisine is great and the weather is great.

You would pay a lot for rent in SP or Rio.

Only upper-middle class and above can do this. Now with real at 4:1 against the dollar, not even them are being able to do it as often.

If every Brazilian did this, Brazil would collapse.

Thing is, we have many importers, people who are self-employed and buy tons of stuff in Miami or Paraguay and bring to Brazil to sell it. That's why Brazilian spending in Miami is so expressive.
>>
>>53509107
Most Brazilians are brown even the white ones.

And did he call himself "lower middle class" or he told you that? Multimillionaire Brazilians usually think they're middle class, so low middle class could mean his father could have a networth of 500k dollars.

São Paulo, yeah most of Brazil got it, just the favelas that don't and drug trafficking ridden areas that don't. Also, If there is a blackout the whole country stops 2bh. Those that get murdered are those related to fighting for or against the drug trafficking and 99% of it stays confined in those areas, most BRs haven't really have a close death experience. What happens to most of the people is cellphone/bike/sneakers robberies, and that is most common crime most BRs have experienced and it really is an uncommon but not that rare thing to happen. Specially since people tend to know those that want rob them just by looking at the person, most have developed a sense to deal with these situations 2bh.

Interesting. I live in New York, murders are down and theft/property crime is the most common here. Either by gas or using an electric heated cylinder called a hot water cylinder. The water is heated before it travels through the pipes, instead of in the machine in the shower.

Nobody HAVE TO, it's just cheaper, like a PS4, but if you are really interested in saving money you just go to Paraguay. And that's only when it's not produced in Brazil, because then the difference is usually negligible

Brazil seems like a shithole, but it could be fun.
Russia is really cold and corrupt, but it's so awesome and spacious like my cunt.
India might be good if I was rich, but it seems like shit paved hell.
China again would be nice if I was in a nice area, but I fear for my lungs,
South Africa seems to be closest culturally to Australia, but it so crime ridden.

I like Russia the best, but realistically, I'd have to go to South Africa. The saffers on /int/ tell me it's okay.

And there you have it how a household income of 4-5k dollars is possible in a middle class neighborhood. Rio is a rich city for Brazilian standards, don't forget it. Plus, there are so many professions in which you earn more than that and most people have investments which give them some sort of income too.

Politician and medic being the only ones.

Dilma herself earns 6k dollars per month. President being one of the most well paid jobs an average Brazilian can achieve. The very definition of upper class. I don't see how 5k household could be "middle class" by any means.
>>
>>53510882
You talk like I'm some sort of millionaire or rich kid. Tijuca is not even an upper class neighborhood, look up if you don't believe me. >"middle class"
Middle class is not only related to income. But education, cultural capital and overall access to "bourgeoisie" products and services. That's the reason I consider myself middle class and most of the people around here. And I'm sure as hell I don't belong to the Brazilian upper class.
Government statistics belongs to the garbage tbqh.

As for your graph, it's related to Brazil as a whole, not to Rio only, there's a big gap between the earnings in a big city and the rest of the country, this happens anywhere in the world.

It's not because they're wealthier. It's because of cost of living.

São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro has costs of living comparable to New York city. Hence, they have to earn more.

At least in São Paulo, I can say that yes, they are 'common'.
Also, keep in mind that lower middle-class is different from mid middle-class and upper middle-class. That can make a really difference because our government keeps lowering the standards of what a 'middle-class' is.

I'm not rich (nor poor ofc), and even if I sometimes had to save a little to buy something more expensive (like a new computer), I can say that I lived a pretty comfortable life here tb.h
