Everyone but based Oregon and based New Jersey has to pump their own gas, literally 3rd world.
>>
>>53492843
it's cold, let them do it, also gas is less than $2 a gallon
>>
>>53492790
I remember the first time I had to put more air in the tires, what a disaster

there should be gas stations for autists where someone does everything for you
>>
>>53492839
yeah they asked if i was going to offroad and i didn't get it but my tires were dangerously soft or something
>>
>>53492994
Here you're on your own with regards to pumping gas, but there's always Jiffy Lube, Midas, and some other places to get basic maintenance done.

The pitying looks I'd get from all the male workers at those places would probably make me go home and kill myself, but that's neither here nor there.

I drive ambulances. Every morning we are supposed to check all the fluids. Other then the oil I have no clue what I'm looking at. We are supposed to know how to change tires and put snow chains on among several other things that I know absolutely no clue about. It's going to come back and bite me in the ass one of these days
>>
>>53493045
it's okay after past certain pressure it just flats that's the worst case scenario

there is a manual on recommended pressure, you have to get a pressure pen thingie to check it

Oh and don't forget to leave a tip on the mute Mexican's charred corpse

It's just a self-pride feeling when you finish it and everything works.
>>
>>53493272

That's what you get when you contract emergency services out to sketchy ambulance companies desu
>>
It kinda makes sense why some states do that. More jobs, more efficiency and less liability.
>>
>>53493231
okay here it is

your ambulance comes with a jack and a spare, i hope
put the jack head thingy underneath the hardpoint thingy and pump it until it lifts the tire off the ground, remove the nuts using the car jack handle from the hub and take the flat out, put the spare on and then the nuts and twist the pump handle to lower the jack

peezy
>>
>>53492645
Could have fooled me, every gas station region is self serve and i used to drive for a living.
>>
>>53493118
How was that not covered in your training courses? Actually, I've always wondered how ambulances in the US work. Are you a public servant paid by the government, or do you work for a private hospital funded by an insurance company? How does healthcare factor in to your responses to situations? Or do you help everyone if you get a 911 call?
>>
>>53493118
It's not that hard, m8. Youtube does wonders for things like that. Better catch up now before you actually put someone's life in danger
>>
>>53493118
What state are you in?
>>
>>53493118
is changing tires on an ambulance different then any other car?
>>
>>53493118
It must be hard doing that shit

Do you see a lot of gore? Have you ever had someone die while you were driving
>>
>>53493464
Ambulances are private, the fire department responds to pretty much everything too though.
Everyone in the US has to receive emergency care.
>>
>>53493464
Not him, but from what I've seen ambulances usually are owned privately by hospitals. However they're obligated to take someone to the nearest possible hospital. They're also obligated to take someone regardless of their insurance situation. Of course people without insurance are going to get a 300+ bill for a 10 minute drive so it's not like they get off scott-free
>>
>>53493464

EMS services in big cities and populated areas are mostly contracted out to private companies. The county/cities set standards for responses times, coverage, ect then takes the lowest bid. Kind of fucked up if you ask me. The company I work for is pretty small and I'm only working here while I'm in school for my paramedic. It's non-union too so they pay us shit and no one likes working there so that's how you end up with employees who don't know how to change tires because the training officers can't be bothered to teach new hires how to do anything.
>>
>>53493708
No lie, i had a standing policy with friends and family that if i'm injured and it's not something that is 100 percent fucked up, call a taxi instead of an ambulance.

Couple old people have died from stroke/ heart attacks while I was driving. No major car accidents or excessive gore. About a month ago though had an 8 month pregnant women OD, coded about 5 mins before we got to the hospital, ER doc pronounced her dead and got to see an emergency C-section performed which was pretty cool.

probably not worth it tbqh, what did you have to do qualification wise?
>>
>>53492645
You gotta be a huge imbecile to pump your own gas. What if you spill gas over your car, or over your clothes? What if something happens and you don't know what to do? Also, why would you do someone's job without receiving anything?
>>
>>53494345
It's not fucking hard lad

You'd have to be pretty fucking retarded to do that. In fact I'm pretty sure a literal retard could pump their own gas without any problem.

It died, it was just to premature. Plus mom had been dead for a good 10-15 before they actually got it out.

>>53494291

Right now I'm an EMT not a paramedic. I only had about 3 months of school for it. I'm basically just an assistant to a paramedic. I spike IV bags, prep meds, and drive. It's great field experience though. There was a kid I went to school with who spent some time in Australia and I remember him telling me that paramedics there have to go through tons more schooling than in the US, he also said they have a way larger scope of practice though which is cool. I start my program next year and I'll have an associate degree. We have some programs here though that will certify you as a paramedic in as little as 8 months, they are hard as fuck though and expensive.

Frying an egg is not hard. Pouring water in a glass is not hard. Washing a spoon is not hard. But sometimes people fuck up and things go wrong.

>>53494583
You know what's retarded? Doing something that could be done by someone else without the risk of fucking up.
>>
>>53494224
Sorry, see >>53494642 for your answer.
>>
>>53494769
Just stop it man, you're overreacting and a little bit of gas spilled won't make the whole station explode. Plus they've got a lot of safety systems, it's 2016 (c'mon people) not 1930.
>>
>>53494642
Interesting, seems like you get much more on the job experience right from the start which is probably quite useful in the long run. Much of the paramedic training here is theory which is supposed to prepare you for pretty much anything and effectively means you can help anyone in the short term regardless of their health issue

>>53494652
I'll go back to using petroleum if you want but I don't want to trigger the Amerifriends

>>53494769
So you're saying we should hire people to fry eggs, pour water, and wash spoons for us? As long as you keep your cigarettes away from the gas station and don't leave the pump on after you leave it's just another thing you have to do as an adult, fucking hell
>>
>>53494769
>Doing something that could be done by someone else without the risk of fucking up.
Other people fuck up too you dingus. There would be zero difference in risk if it was me or somebody else pumping my gas.
>>
>>53494976
If you don't understand the difference in liability between an employee fucking up and a customer fucking up, then you're a lost cause
>>
>>53492906
The only reason Oregon does it is because they give the gas pumping jobs to newly released prisoners. Its the stupidest welfare I've ever heard of. If you're going to give them a job give them one that's fucking worthwhile.

I'm joking here but my mom seriously does that. Once her car hits 100k she trades it for a newer one. She gets a new car every 3-5ish years.

30 mile commute, twice a day is 420 miles/week, 1680 miles/month, and 20160 miles/year. At that rate, five years is usually the most she gets out of a car.
