These two go together. The rightwing (or right of centre) liberal party (VVD) has more progressive and more conservative elements in it.. The more conservative ones want to maintain the sunday closure (which is a matter dealt with in municipal/regional politics) so that their voters (usually self-employed, (small)business owners etc) do not have to compete with the big supermarkt chains on Sundays. Because supermarkets ALWAYS open when given the chance..

Visiting family in itself is not outdated, but _only_ visiting family on sunday because everything else is considered 'work' (or too much like work) is a bit outdated. Oh, and obviously workers get days off.. We have laws that state the maximum amount of days per month people can work, the maximum amount of hours on end etc.. Also, the sunday closure is _only_ about shops. If your work is in a restaurant, you likely have to work anyway. If you're a policeman, nurse, bus driver or train conductor etc etc etc: work.. Many places do close on sundays, like factories and such, but it's only shops where it's manditory.
