I went on a river cruise on the Danube years ago and the entire crew was almost completely Slovak. They were so nice and hospitable. I would go back to the crew's quarters and drink with them each night. They were seriously great. I have always had a good opinion of them since.

Dunno about Polish influence, but people in the south make shit really spicy, Hungol style. I can attest to that.
Also there are financial divisions in cuisine. Poorer regions had to make do with veggies, while richer have more meaty culture.

There is a bunch of old castles and ruins around the city. Devín castle is probably most famous.

I'm sure many people do. We aren't really that different people. I'm not even 40, so I don't remember shit about living in the federation. I would be lying to you if I said I miss it, because I don't have any memories tied to it.

This is hard to answer. I'm not an economist, so I can't argue with people who say we are doing better on our own, and that Czechs were always complaining because they were pushing the bigger cart. Undeniable fact is, Czechs had twice as many people and twice as much industry. But we had some pretty big industry as well.
Others say it was fault of new Slovak government and their populist bullshit about "living under Czech yoke".
Maybe we are only doing better because of Eurofunds and foreign investment.
Still, Czechoslovakia was a country that made own cars, armored vehicles, fighter jets and consumer electronics. We can only speculate what could have been.
I hear that Slovak and Czech kids have a hard time talking to each other nowadays. Can't really judge, because I grew up listening to Czech language, watching their movies and such, so I had never trouble with this.
