It's seen as something that everybody does and is no big deal. Although it can be seen as funny in the right circumstances, most people will generally try to avoid bringing attention to themselves when they do it.

I fart around my family and alone and that's it.
I had a girlfriend freshman year in college and farted around her and she even did it around me.
Had another one who I farted around but she'd never ever fart around me.
I have guy friends who do it around me but I normally don't feel comfortable doing it, unless we're drinking a lot or something then whatever.
