yea it is, in certain neighborhoods you will hear spanish being spoken but most grandkids of mexicans/other latin americans dont speak spanish. of course there are exceptions like miami where over 50% speaks spanish but that's very rare.

To be honest with you though, USA has no official language. We use English by default, and Spanish is becoming our go-to second language for everything, and depending on what area of the U.S. you live in you will usually find some materials available in languages common in that area (I'm specifically thinking of Chinese). Also, in both private industry and in government, translation servies are common. So let's say the government sends you a letter-it will be in English and probably in Spanish, and on the top there will be a paper in several other languages expaining that you can call a phone number to request materials in Hmong, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic, etc. Similarly at a private industry pharmacy you might find a brochure that gives you a similar service.
Where I live we have alot of materials that include Portuguese, actually, since my town has a Portuguese populaton and the old people tend not to speak much English. True to OP's observation I speak Spanish so we communicate in a Spanish-Portuguese-English mix, haha.
