Floridian here, perhaps I can shed some light.
The two centers of civilization are Miami to the south and Orlando in the middle of the state. Travel further north than Disney and you hit a bizarre parody of the Old South. Travel south from Miami and you get fucking nothing.
The Miami you see in movies is really Miami Beach. The rest is flat, heinously suburban and kind of brown. Hold a slice of toast horizontal, bring it up to your eyes, and you're a hop and a skip away from a midday drive down Dade county.
Outside of the safe cities, you have:
>Miami Gardens/Caroll City, where blacks murder each other every day
>Cuban satellite towns
>Everglades, where you can gamble or get rid of a corpse
>The Keys, where moms ride bikes and hundreds of people fish off bridges
The entire state is made of memes, pressed against each other cheek-to-cheek, wrapped in crying twine that can only just hold it all together.
