America had the ability to end the war with their new technology, and everyone back home wanted it to end as quickly as possible. They weren't going to waste time demonstrating it offshore or trying to convince Japan in any of those other convoluted fashions that people often conjure up using a different mindset and 20/20 hindsight.
In any case, the allies (Americans/BCOF/etc.) helped rebuild Japan after the war. That's something you probably wouldn't expect from Japan at the time if they happened to possess the same technology.
